Grace Chung

Taiwan

Taiwanese pianist Grace Chung has garnered international acclaim for her poetic artistry and technical mastery. A prizewinner of numerous prestigious competitions, she was launched onto the international stage after winning Taiwan’s National Piano Competition at the age of 14, followed by her solo debut with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra at Jordan Hall at age 16.

BIOGRAPHY

Ms. Chung was the winner of the Juilliard Piano Concerto Competition, performing as soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall. Her accolades also include First Prize at the Seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in Taiwan, First Prize at the Yamaha Young Artist Competition, and the Rutgers University Concerto Competition, which led to two concerto appearances. Other highlights of her performances include collaborations with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the world premiere of Chia-Yu Hsu’s Piano Concerto with the Curtis Orchestra, and a featured concerto performance with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. 

In addition to her solo career, Ms. Chung is a passionate chamber musician, having appeared in venues such as Jordan Hall and the Gardner Museum in Boston, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Merkin Hall in New York City. Her international engagements have taken her to different cities of North America, Europe and Asia. She has also served as faculty at numerous renowned music festivals, including InterHarmony International Music Festival, Todi International Music Academy, MusicFest Perugia in Italy, Valencia International Performing Academy & Festival in Spain, as well as the Ameri-China International Piano Festival in New York and International Maestro Piano Festival in Taiwan.

Ms. Chung holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music (BM), The Juilliard School (MM), and Rutgers University (DMA), and studied with Wha Kyung Byun, Seymour Lipkin, Jerome Lowenthal, and Susan Starr. She currently serves as Professor of Piano at the Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan, where she continues to inspire the next generation of pianists. In recent years her students have consistently earned top prizes at major national and international piano competitions.
