40 Pianists from 20 Countries on Their Way to Porto

From 149 applications submitted by young pianists up to 32 years of age, 40 exceptional musicians have been selected to take part in the live rounds of the Santa Cecília International Piano Competition. The pre-selection jury — Álvaro Teixeira Lopes (Portugal, president), Cristian Budu (France/Brazil), Eliane Reyes (Belgium/France), and Paulo Oliveira (Portugal) — praised the high artistic level and international diversity of this year’s candidates.

The selected pianists are: Akito Tani, Arisa Fujisawa, Bairun Liu, Bogdan Dugalić, Chengcheng Yao, Daumants Liepins, Dmitry Mayboroda, Dmitry Sin, Dmytro Semykras, Edoardo Riganti Fulginei, Fangzhou Ye, Francisco Vilar, Gehan Zhang, GyuTae Ha, Harrison Herman, Hyunji Kim, Ivan Petrović-Poljak, Jakub Sládek, Kaliya Kalcheva, Laura Ballestrino Mateos, Maiatsky Ionah, Maya Oganyan, Mikhail Kambarov, Momoko Kudo, Nicolas Bourdoncle, Reina Arai, Roman Lopatynskyi, Ron Maxim Huang, Sherri Hoi-Ching Lun, Shuailin Li, Sonya Pigot, Stefan Bonev, Taewoong Yoo, Taiyuan Zhang, Viktoria Baskakova, Wenfang Han, Yeontaek Oh, Yi Cai Liu, Yuno Mitsui and Zifan Ye.

The competition will take place at Casa da Música in Porto, from June 20 to 28, with all rounds open to the public and free to attend. Highlights include the Semifinal — a chamber music recital on Thursday, June 26 — and the Final on Saturday, June 28 at 6 PM, featuring the three finalists with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, conducted by Maestro Roberto Tibiriçá.
